1981 R.C. Manne Melanerpes formicivorus Y (3 Oct) Also, one would think Plague would eventually give up on this little "side project" and get back to their own territory + store acorns. 1555, another scrap in the locusts, the 2 cooperating ♀NB and ♂669 all there. This could develop into a real power struggle. Plague has started storing. It's worth noting. Also seen on the knoll was J664 Corn-Dan/M of Bucheye, who I've still not been able to sex, and ♂564 Red-BLK/BLK-Red of 1800. Little 1610, Still a lot of action in the locusts, including garricks. Plague birds still in control. Will check later. At least action is at the right spot, now. 7 Oct Watching 1310. Hallelujah! A resolution in sight. As I suspected from a watch at Plague yesterday (and a glance here while collecting bugs), Plague has apparently given up on the Lower Barn Locusts and has returned home to store acorns. Here now, looking in control and comfortable with each other, or -DBlue/White are J♂669 M / Or-DBlue, and the 2 ♀ NB. Great! Blk-brn/M Looks like they have it. 1330, also here is J668 Blk-brn/Blt, and I am 95% certain that J668 is molting into ♀ plumage. Very strange! I ever saw J♀668 exchange quick mounts with one of the ♀NB (!!), so they thus far seem quite friendly. Whether J668 will stay or not is not clear. Also, her breeding status if she stays would certainly be interesting. Doesn't look like they are storing acorns yet, but I feel pretty sure that they will. 1440, Checking the knoll, as I thought that I saw/heard a bit of activity here. All I find are 1 or 2 ♀ NB, and despite my suspicions, there is no compelling reason to think that
