1981 R.L. Mumme 3 Melanerpes formicivorus Y (20 Sept) probably J668 as well: J702 or /Pu/or from Warp 5, (!) of all places; J6695 m /mauve of 1800; J6665 Yellow - BIK/Red of Buckeye, and I believe J666 Bk-Red/m of Buckeye of Buckeye as well. Plus peripherally, 402, and Plague adults (Barn). 0810 coop (or sharpie) alarm calls go out 0900 well starting to get the picture. The main activity is centered around the old fallen granary, although there is little activity in it per se. Most of the birds are in a Blue oak 20 m north and in the big, acorn loaded VO near the fence-line, 30 m SW of the granary. Main participants are: ① School Hills J668 + J669, mostly the latter doing the chasing. 402 is here, but doesn't look that active. ② An ad ♀NB, plus a Juv that looks like she's molting into ♀plumage (see last week's Y notes) that appear to be cooperating, or at least not chasing each other. The adult ♀ NB seems to be chasing another ♀NB Others: J702 (Warp5), J6695 (1800), J6665 (Buckeye) (J666 not confirmed), J660 (Plague), J6 NB. And, the three ♀NB. Meaning today, at least 11 active participants; A cooperating group of 2 (or 3) S Hill ♂♂, and an apparent cooperating group of 2 ♀NB End 0910. 1330, Activity shifted to the pine trees by the School House (???). Still, the 2 school Hill Jurs (with 402 nearby) and 1-2 ♀NB chasing everybody. Most intruders look like ♀NB. Intruder here, or /white (who?). Thought 853?, but no.
