1981 R.L. Mumme Melanerpes formicivorus Plague (8 June) walking by 1110, I see babies! J662 DBlue-Red/DBlue-Red and J660 DBlue-white both in the Plague tree. J662 not looking any worse for wear from my little faun paws Both flying quite well. I suspect 661 is around as well. 1120, well, first Juvenile dominance interactions of DBlue-Red (M)/M → the season. Top of the 2° tree, J660 pecks the keepebees out of J662, at least 2 independent times. Happened after I saw a ♂ fly in and feed 662. J661 <Blg-DBlue/Blue also seen. 4H1 3 babies, all 4 adults present! 10 June Watching here 0720. 0800, I see dominance. J661, J662 together on a small storage limb, no adult present, J661 pecks hard at the head of J662 3 separate times! 0900 Watching birds in Big Blue Oak; ♂521 kleptoparasitizes a ♀ Bluebird. ♀ W. Bluebird had caught this enormous spider, literally the size of the bluebirds head. Very fat as well. She handled it for 15-20 seconds, then ♂521 flew down and the Bluebird flew away without resistance. ♂521 picked up the rest of the spider and flew up higher in the tree to feed J662 0930. More Juv. Dom in 2° Tree. 661 nails 662 → very hard around the head several times, 2 separate occasions, Birds alone in 2° tree. No adults near. 1020, another J661 > J662. Former luges at J662, who turns head, closes eyes, while ♂521 present and Freeling J661. 14 June Up in the cabin at 1050 working on the Egg-tossing paper I am distracted by ♂521 poking around in a globular Paper wasp nest hanging from the lower crossbar of the utility
