Mumme 7 Melanerpes formicivorus Plaque (16 April) 0712 ♀494 looks in briefly, flies off 0752 ♂521, then ♀494, at nest, look in a few seconds each, fly off 0754 ♀494 at hole nearly 1 min, then flies off 0755 ♂521, the ♀494 enter hole. 0758, ♂521 looks out for 1 sec, twice. 0805 ♀496 comes to hole, ♂521 leaves, ♀494 leaves, I scare off ♀496, check nest. A new egg, marked #2, laid by ♀494. Measurements were 25.3 X 19.4 mm. Egg still warm. 0826 ♂521 looks in 0927 ♀496 enters, leaves 0928. ♂521 checks hole briefly then enters. ♂521 leaves at 0932, after tapping on inside of hole 0934 ♂473 looks in, flies. ♀496 enters looks out quickly, 0935. 0936, ♀494 goes to hole, ♀496 leaves, ♀494 enters at 0937 0938, ♂473 goes to hole, ♀494, ♂473 fly off 0945 nest check. Still 2 eggs. End watch at 1015. Watching behavior in the afternoon, summarized on back of page 6. Again, both ♂♂ appear to be following the ♀494, ignoring ♀496. Late, the 2♂♂ + ♀494 were ½ mile up madrone canyon, with ♀496 alone in the granary, the cabin Blue Oak and Adobe Hill. Twice, however, ♂473 made very long flights back to the granary area,
