1981 R.C. Mumme Melanerpes fornicivorus Upper Arnold 2 [7 July] Watching here 0840. These guys still have tons of acorns, Lots of activity in a thin, spindly Valley Oak near the top of the Ear ridge of S Ravine. I see 9621 wht/or/wnr-or for sure, and a good look at J681 or/yellow. DBlue/CBlue-Or ♂123 m/m sits for 20min 30~ below the granary with food in bill (!). Could they have a second host? 0930, 9591 Supplants 9567 ill Red/Red intruding from A1. 1040. Bear here for an extra hour, at about 0945 I was at the UA2 nest tree when I thought for sure I heard the sound of begging baby. 13 Sept Watching here 0800. These guys are still loaded with acorns, 0845, a few birds, 9621 ♂23 DBlue/m, and J681 orange/yellow in ♂ Plumage (!). He may be the only juvenile left alive here. No action in any nest holes. 14 Oct Watching 1120. Whoa, a new ♀ here, I read as Lgrn-whr/Lgrn-wht also ♀NB intruder, drumming, garricks. 1250, total confusion, A ♂ yellow/m ? Definite ♂, definite yellow/m. Yes, it's 9652 Yellow/Cgreen from Fanny Arnold, the breeding ♀ there. I don't know what her story is over here (trying to step up in territory quality?) But I first thought she and the mystery ♀, m /11, were cooperating, but I later saw 9652 definitely being chased by the Cgrn-wht ♀ Also here are ♂123 DBlue/m, and ♂681 Yellow/m But no trace of any of the other UA2 birds. I did catch a glimpse of another bird who I read as (unless it was ♂622 of 1500 (unlikely, at best), ♂56b of A1
