1981 R.C. Mumme Melanerpes formicivorus Lambert (10 Nov) DBlue-Yellow(N)/Lgreen. After watching these 5 birds (maybe more), they flew directly up to the Lambert granary area, I walk up there, but in the process I flush 3 birds off to the NW. All the ♂ looked reasonably cozy with ♀652. What is going on? Are some or all of these birds going to move here. ♀652 is no surprise, as I expected to see her again after her abandonment of Fanny Arnold. What's more (just for additional confusion [as if I needed any]), there are acorns stored at keep Out. Geez Louise! (see keep Out notes) 3 Dec 1030: Hallelujah! Acorns + Birds! First bird I find is ♂691 DBlue-yellow(N)/Lgreen of Black Oak. I will have to guess he's here with some bros, and ♀652. 1330. Not much luck watching, but I do manage to confirm ♀652 Yellow/Lgreen " / m , and (the only other BO ♂ I saw) ♂624 LBlue-Red/LBlue-Red. 1405, well over toward Lambert from keep Out, I find ♂545 or-LBlue/or, so it would seem that the activity I saw 10 Nov was for real. LBlue/m , ♀652 yellow/Lgreen " / m. 11 Dec A quick look, 1030, ♂545 LBlue/m , ♀652 " / m. Counted stocs: Holey tree + environs: 365 fallen limb 1475 Valley Oak (broken) 425 TOTAL 2265 Not bad for one months work. While counting, ♂624 LBlue-Red/LBlue-Red shows up briefly
