Melanotpes formicivorus
Arnold I
(14 Oct) Later, I find many Al birds in the "centerfield" Valley
Oak, including 9567 M/Red, and a good look at ♂100
Yellow-DGrn/Yellow-DGrn. 9567 later seen
Lots of acorns stored here already.
11 Dec Counted stores: A guess, really, because the counter
was fucking up. Anyway...
TOTAL 3300 or so. Doing
pretty well.
Also I saw ♂566 Blk/or-BLK ♀568
and ♀680 Yellow/cBlue-Red in the vicinity of Big
Tree. It even appeared that these birds were
storing acorns in a broken Valley Oak near the down
Big Tree granary. (I found 1 stored acorn). Also,
I was fairly sure (not positive) that I saw ♂566
fly up near Keep Out, then fly down to the Al
granary. Perhaps KO is just an extension of Al,
and not a group unto itself. That might explain
the rather low attendance at Keep Out.
