1981 R.L. Mumme 4 Melanerpes formicivorus Black Oak (22 Oct) and J713. Everybody seen quite well. J713 may be coming into 3rd plumage, but it could still be too early for him. Only birds missing were 624 and J690. A lot of storing activity, some in the already-crammed main granary, and a lot in the 2° area. 10 Nov Lots of BO birds around Keep Out + Lambert (see Lansect notes) 3 Dec " " " Lambert (see Lambert notes) also, 8321 or /DBI-Yel (N) 689 M/or unt in the Black Oak - Bianca tension zone. 11 Dec A swing by, I see 8102 Yellow/unt and a 7NB, which I hope does not belong here. 14 Dec Counted stores, 1600: Fallen Limb 1800 Main area 1000 2° area 500 TOTAL 3300 Not bad. Also, a limb in the 2° area had fallen, so the group lost ~150 storage holes and about 100 acorns.
