1981 R.C. Mumme Melanerpes formicivorus School Hill 13 May Nestcheck 1700. 3 healthy babies: ① Yellow-Black 39.5 g ② Magic marker-right wing leg 40.0g ③ unmarked 38.2g I dropped the bad box into the poison oak after banding the 1st one, so the other 2 went unbanded. Also, the hole face was on the verge of totally falling out of the nest, so I nailed it up in better shape. 19 May Roasting, and as is the norm for this group, nobody roosted in the nest. 23 May After Mary's report today of no feedings in 2½ hrs, I check the nest at 1700. Of course, all 3 nestlings appear fine + healthy. 15 June Start 0730, Hopeless watch looking for juvenile. I see! Later, Sue (perhaps 668), but not sure, and hear 1 or 2 others, but just too much foliage. Maybe I'll try below the granary another time. 886 8402 9260, 9604 all seen. Also saw 8402 perched at 9604 in the top of the roost tree. Also, an unbanded family of Orioles (♀, 2 Babies), and a Banded ♀ Bluebird (DBlue M - LBlue, Scrub Jay Style). End 1630 No sign of 9523 or 9602. 17 June Trying 0630 from blind below granary, near Malaise trap. Right off I spot 9260 + 9523 DBlue-wht/DBlue chase a PNB intruder out of the granary. Then 5669 metal. 22 June Start again 0610. 5669 + 669 soon, but once again no sign of 667. I wonder if he is gone 886, 8402, 9523 + 9604 also seen, Nodominance,
