1981 R.C. Munne Melanerpes formicivorus Road 3 (2 Jane) and she seemed to be spending a lot of time in the 1st nest hole. Hope she doesn't split her clutch. Nothing really interesting seen, behaviourwise. However, I did see J654 (1/2 blue) and J656 Red-whit/D Blue. 3 June Start 1045 Looks like ♀ following breaking down. J654 1110, I saw ♂84 really jump on ♂618 when the latter was in → the top of the Sycamore working acorns. Another case of young birds being 'excluded' from the granary? 1145, Actually, it looks (like last year) that ♂68 is still fairly enthusiastic about following ♀265, but ♂84 does not seem to care about her. Nest check 1200. 3 eggs, the one laid today marked #3 and returned. 4 June Nest check 1345 4 eggs. #4 marked + returned. A bird incubating when I arrived, so clutch may be complete. 5 June Nestcheck 1215. Still 4 eggs, so unless a late one goes in tomorrow, I'd say clutch was complete as of 4 June. Will check again & measure eggs in a couple days 9 June An inauspicious start watching here 0930-1115. Complete dominance table (!) (see reverse), all interactions seen in the big Valley Oak in the PO Hill flat. Only the dom. Juv (655) seen in the granary. Complete census as well, J655 really nailed J654 hard, while 654 > 656 and 655 > 656 were more gentle taps. Only in the 2 654 > 656 cases was an adult present and feeding (feeding 654). Sehr Gut! Would like to have others watch here to increase sample.
