M81 R.L. Munne Melanerpes formicivorus Road 3 9 April Checked nest 1545. Still no eggs. Getting tired of this. 10 April Another check 1530. Would you believe still no eggs? 11 April Start watch here 0800. Looks like ♂♂ are still following 9265, so at least they haven't nested elsewhere yet 0820, Very strange, a Stellers Jay near me gives a very good imitation of an Acorn Woodpecker excited tapir. Never heard that before. 0835, 9265 at hole, but does not enter 1046, 6537 looks in as well. 0850, core 3 arrives, 4 NB intruder in the sycamore "perch" tree (not granary) 9265 does not chase. 0906, 8618 briefly enters nest. 0915, Not much interest in nest hole today. Could they be planning to nest elsewhere? If so it would be likely to be along the creek S or W of the granary, as birds seen tosped a lot of time over there. 12 April Peeped in at 1730. Still empty. Getting very tired. 13 April Lets try another watch, starting at 1000. 1030, 9265 enters nest. They're still interested, leaves 1033. End 1100. They've got to nest in that hole soon! 1730, nestcheck. I peep in and hallucinate 2 eggs, then reach in and find the nest empty once again. 14 April Nestcheck 1700, peeped in. Empty. 16 April Nest check at 1200. Peeper reveals nothing. I'll have to watch here again, soon. 17 April Whoops! Nest check at 01820, 2 eggs! They've finally done it! It also means I missed an egg on my check yesterday, but no matter. Watched roosting here as well. Not unexpectedly, the 3 core members came in
