1981 R.L. Murme 5 Melanerpes formicivorus Road 1 (18 April) 0712, ♀269 back down, 075, looks out. Back down 0720, 0723, ♂486 enters too, 0726 ♀269 leaves) (During this bout, 0655-0726, ♀269 laid an egg) 0730, ♀383 enters "upper" hole of the two usable holes in the 1º granary, 0734, ♀383 leaves, [illegible] → 0736, I spot an egg wedged in at the very top of the most western (downstream) branch of the 1º granary, ♂580 pecking at egg. 0744, ♂577 now sucking juices from egg (egg is still round and in good condition, just one bill hole). ♂486 also seen using egg. Egg stored point end down, wedged into an avil area. 0843, ♂577 back in granary, eating part of egg material (yolk or white). 0846, ♀269 seen → eating egg! sucking (lapping?) albumen out of egg. 0915, ♀269 returns to feed on egg immediately followed by ♂577. → 0918, ♀269 seen in top of 1º granary, manipulating (eating, I think!) a bit of egg shell from another egg (This was the other ♀383 egg thrown out by ♀269 that I didn't see. Refer to Walter's notes), Definitely not the egg in the top of the granary, as it is still intact. 0926, ♂486 sucks on egg (intact) for several seconds, Sticky "white" readily visible on bill as he laps it up. 0928, ♀383 enters "upper" 1º granary hole again. In just for 15-30 seconds.
