1981 R.L. Munne Melanerpes fornicivorus Gate 5 Oct Watching here at W Gate, 1430-1630, I see ♀519 BIK/Yellow/BIK and ♂627 LPAK/DBlue, plus others I didn't get good looks at. Storing has begun! 7 Oct complete census 2 Dec Counted stores: 640 Total! 12 Dec Watching here, 0930-1030. ♀519 BIK-Yellow/BIK ♂627 LPAK-DBlue/Metal, both seen, and others. Furthermore, it turns out the "♂"685 LBlue-Red/LBlue is actually a ♀! Pretty sure, anyway. The Broken top Live Oak in Square-nail Flat has a good crop of still-green acorns, and the birds were doing a bit of harvesting from it. (along with 10-15 days!) 14 Dec Watching here again, 0930, all I see are ♀519 and ♂627 again. Also, I found a fallen Sycamore Limb with about 250 usable storage holes, and 75 Stored acorns. It was lying on the S side of Martin Road, 500 M east of the point directly underneath the 1981 nest hole. Not certain if this fell before or after my count on 2 Dec. (heck that! I just found 2 more branches near the same spot: About 150 usable holes and 105 acorns. So this was a serious loss to this group: Plus a few other odds & ends, 450 storage holes lost 3 all about mid-Nov. 200 acorns lost, 3 early December I think all this happened before my acorn count, as none of the branches I remembered from 2 Dec were missing, Also, most of the branches were covered with sycamore leaves and one was damp+moldy from lying on the ground.
