1981 R.L. MUMAR Melanerpes formicivorus Gate (1 July) been under a pecking attack. J685 > J684 runs counter to yesterdays "iffy" interaction, So I would definitely like to see it unambiguously at least once. However, I think (will have to check the next record again) that J685 had a longer wing than J684. End 1100. 7 July Trying here again 0930. No luck. 16 July Trying again, 1100. Complete census, all 3 Juvs, all 4 adults seen well, had some chances for Juv. dominance, but no luck. End 1200. 21 Aug Watching 0845. Earlier, while at Wgare, I saw a nice juvenile dominate interaction in the top of the gate sycamore. So at least 2 Juvs still present 0900. Both J684 Grn/whit/Grn-whit ad J686 M/Bklt-Black Flycatch from the W Gate sycamore. 0945, ♂626 or/DBlue-whit (N), ♂627 Grn-DBlue/M, ♀519 Bk-Yellow/Bk all seen quite well. Missing art of course ♀609 who has apparently moved to 1500 (see 1500 (18 Aug notes)), ad J685. J685 is the dominant juvenile here, but I'm starting to wonder if he's still here. 1009 Whoa, J685 shows up, CBlue-Red/M Blue. So complete census. Plus a couple of hints that J685 > J684 as suspected. J686 moved away a couple of times when ⚫ J685 approached, ad J685 even took an acorn away from J684. End 1000. 10 Sept Well, J684 did not make it. Like J600 last year, J684 was dead on road when I passed by at 1300. He was in fairly good shape, although quite dry <stiff, but I would guess that he was road killed this morning. Also, seemed quite definitely in ♂ plumage.
