Blom 3
8 June Did a bit of exploring today. Continuing IVE toward
Corral Viejo along the "road" that goes by Blom 2, in about
½ km you come to a sleepy-looking Blue Oak granary
on the right. I've noticed this tree before, but today was
the first time I'd seen it with Ictoms. Walking around
I found 5 nice-looking holes in 3 trees. 3 of the holes
I climbed up to and stuck my hand in, with no response (see
reverse). Seems like they should have a nest. Regardless,
will be worth trying to find where they roost and ambushing
later this summer
4 Aug I walk by the granary, find acorns essentially gone.
Birds around to the sw, but it could be Blom 2 activity.
1215, Over in one of the "hollows" by Gazebo, I find
2 Juveniles, without bows! Also a dominance interaction, which
will do me no good. Juv's look pretty old. I then find a couple
of adult ♂♂, plus a juv in a saptree. See map on
back.
6 Aug Tried to watch roosting at the "major hole area" (the 5 I
described 8 June) or the granary. One bird cruised
by as I arrived, but nobody roosted in any of those
holes. No karrits, no nuthin.
12 Sept Walked by here. Lots of birds, but nobody in any holes.
20 Nov 4 birds in the area and lots of acorns stored here.
