1981 R.L. Munne 5 Melanerpes Formicivorus Gazebo ** 6 Oct GROUP UPDATE: ① Q570 returns 4 July ± 1 month. Last seen roosting at Gazebo in late April-early May (see Walters notes) but definitely absent through the next period until nest failure, 5 June. First seen back at Gazebo 4 Aug. ② Q571 returns 4 July ± 1 month. Was seen at Gazebo 20 April, roosting at Low Hay 13 May (!) intruding at Y 6 June + Blo-quist Canyon 7 June, Back at Gazebo on 4 Aug. Definitely absent from Gazebo, May - early June. 20Nov I try to watch here, 1200, and though I think I get a glimpse of Q570 mauve/metal, and d ♂ metal/ basically I struck out. Birds doing pretty well acorn wise. Also, At least 4 UB birds were hanging out around the old Vo graveyard down the road toward CV#1. Probably were CV#1 birds, but it will be worth keeping an eye on. No stored acorns there yet, 1 Dec Counted stores, 1300: Total 1220 10 Dec: Watched here 1030-1200, and did all right. Q571 LBlue/Blt/LBlue and Q653 corn-wht/Lbm all seen. So that fills in the census, having seen Q570 on 20 Nov. Still lots of live oak acorns left in some trees along the fence line.
