1981 R.C. Muhme Melanerpes formicivorus Gazebo (5 June) No visits. ♂516 and a second bird are here. I've seen them in the nest tree and ♂516 in the Blue Oak at the fence line (n of the gazebo), and never saw him with any food in his bill Not like my presence is keeping them away. Will have to drag the ladder over here soon. Nest failed! 4 Aug Watching here 1100. Well, who should be in the granary area than ♂516 metal/yellow-DBlt AND ♂571 M / LBlue-Blade, How about that? Back home after wandering like crazy during the spring. On the same branch as ♂516, he was chattering a great deal. Perhaps suggests that ♂571 was forced to leave when the new ♀ arrived (by ♂516) and now, after the breeding season, is patching things up. ♀653 here as well. See page 9 of Blomone notes, accidentally entered record of a bird Red, BPink, DPink, or mauve/metal near the Gazebo. Couldn't get the sex. Perhaps ♀570, Mauve/Metal, but I thought the band was pretty much on the red side. 1150 Confirm ♂570 Mauve/metal, on the Raga fence line Live Oak 40 m ENE of Gazebo. Didn't see her interacting with anybody, but she certainly acted like she belongs here. Would like to see her and ♀653 together. I wonder if ♂509 is around, too. End 1200. ♀653, ♂571 both seen in the same tree that ♂570 was in (though never together), So I'd guess it's a foursome. Could ♂509 be here as well? Possible, since it wasn't a great census here. 12Sept Checked holes here, nothing. 1 Oct A quick pass: 4 birds here: Only ♂516 + ♀653 seen with certainty, but others probably ♂571, ♂570. Storing has begun
