Melanerpes formicivorus
Gazebo
28 April Sunofagan, Here at 1130, and a ♀NB is in the granary. How
about that? Walking, looking like she owns the place. I
see her a lot (perhaps 2 ♀NB? Possible!) How did
she sneak in here without the formalities of a revolution?
Perhaps she did, and we missed it. Will have to watch
here later.
30 April Here at 1000. ♀NB still here, walking a tail raising
only occasionally. ♂51b n/yellow. ♂DBlue also seen
13 May Walking around checking holes at 1500. A ♀ looking
out of the 1979 nest hole (broken stub, near the
Gazebo area) may mean nest. The ♀ had a dot of
white-out smack in the middle of the black forehead,
so I'd bet it's the ♀ ambushed by Walter 4-5 days
ago.
Earlier today, ♀509 @ see intruding at Low Hay. And
♂571
CBlue-81k/CBlue
seems to be roosting with the birds
at Lower Haystack, for god knows what reason. See
Low Hay notes
15 May Checked the 1979 (now 1981) hole here. @ at 1130. 4 eggs
Fairly fresh (3-4 days?). Birds seem to have been
shitting in the hole as eggs stained with brown. Bird
in the hole when I arrived
16 May Routine nest watch
17 May "" ""
19 May "" "" However, I have a feeling this group is
down to just ♂51b and ♀653. Those are the only birds I've
seen at the nest that I've yet to hear walkas while one is incubating.
