Melanerpes formicivorus
Blom-one
4 Aug Start 0745. 0840, God, confusion reigns supreme over at
Blom 2. In the B12 nest tree, I find good old ♀478
DBlue-or/DBlue-or. I See her waka in rather friendly fashion with
LBlue/M
♂493 LBlue/LBlue. On top of that, we have here Juv. 679
LPak/Mauve
metal/Mauve from 1500 (♂). He was picked at a bit by ♀478,
but seemed to be friendly with ♂493. How do they know
that they are sibs? (So much to think about, haha). Perhaps they
were "introduced" by ♂623, although I have not seen him
yet. Also another strange ♂ (or well-advanced juvenile) that
I couldn't identify (DBlue/M). I've also seen ♂492 in
the very nearly dead Blue Oak near the pond, and in the Blom-one
granary. For additional confusion, I keep hearing occasional
garridos coming from Blom One. Also, I saw a bird (I think
♀478) enter the Blom 2 1980 nest hole for a few seconds, Gooz
Louise! Hope I can figure this all out. I have to wonder
if ♀478 has been in residence at Blom 2 since June (I saw her
here 0930). These 3 birds still about Blom 2, End watch.

1125, an unidentified bird. BPink/Metal (Red/Metal?) (Mauve/Metal)
Couldn't get the sex, harritting 75 m N of the gazebo. Who
could that be? Possible ♂570, but I thought the color was
more red than mauve.
20 Aug Start at Blom one 0730. Well, ultimate confusion. I find
little activity at the granary, but I hear/see lots of action
on Big knoll (Not Blom one) wandering up there. I find
♂492 M/B1K, and ♂649 //DBlue, a few unbanded birds,
including some Juv's that might have come from Blom 4 or CV 2.
