1981 R.C. Mumme Melanerpes formicivorus Blom one 3 June Start 0610. 0810, lots of strange developments. Early, only ♂492 and ♀649 in the granary, though it looked like a third (or even a 4th bird) around as well. However, lots of noise over at Blom 2. Over here I find ♂493 [Blue/m and [illegible] ♀478 DBlue-Or/DBlue-Or " " ; She is Garricking occasionally, but seems to be truly hanging out with ♂493. I believe I heard them waka to each other. So far, no sign of ♂493 showing any interest in flying toward Blom-one. 5 June Watching here a very late 0700. Garricks + Karrits coming from Blom 2. The 1st thing I see is ♀649 flying from the granary to Blom 2, not followed by anybody, even though I'm fairly sure ♂492 was in the granary. ♀649 the only bird I saw well, although at least 1 ♂ + probably a 3rd bird here as well. Getting tired of these guys. 7 June Sunovagan. 0630, a veritable mini-revolution at the Muddy south of the 2nd canyon on the Blongquist ranch. Main participant seems to be ♂571 [Blue-BLK/[Blue Metal / [Blue-Black, erstwhile of Gezebo, garricking from the tops of the Valley Oaks in the 2º canyon. ♀623 Red/Yellow of 1500 also seen here briefly, plus at least 2 other birds. 0700, ♂623 [Blk-Or/Blk or/B1K, ♂492 M/Blk also turn up, and I think ♀565 [unt/Metal from 1800. ♂492 seemed to wander over here by himself, so he can't be too keyed on following ♀649 around. 8 June Start watch at the granary 0700. 0810, I'm giving upon these guys.
