Melanopetes formicivorus
Lower Haystark
(14 May) ③ Somewhat off-center air cell, just like the "rant"
that we suspect was laid by ⑤523 yesterday.
Backup at 1000, nest check, a 4th egg!
Laid very late, (between 0800 + 1000), by
⑤524. Could this be her last egg?, or is she
taking the day off tomorrow? We shall see. Anyway,
measurements 27.3 x 20.5 Strage egg, almost
elliptical (no "blunt" end), and very light. Would
have been nice to weigh it. Very tiny air cell. Anyway,
marked #4 and replaced.
Movie camera apparatus taken down in view
of deteriorating weather (misty, etc.)
15 May
Nest check 1000. As suspected, only one egg laid today,
25.2 x 20.9. Safe bet that this is ⑤523's in view
of ① ⑤524's late laying yesterday (she is either
through or taking the day off today) ② This egg (marked
#5, has a slightly off-center air cell, just like the previous
2 eggs laid by Mrs. ⑤523.
16 May
Start 0700. Sun of agun, ⑤587 whr-B1K / Bpat-Black
is back! At 0720, she was leaf gleaning in the top of the
garany, with only mild aggression from (I think) ⑤524.
The aggression was on the order of that seen in dominance interactions, as
opposed to a full fledged chase.
0800, Nest check, still 5 eggs (!). What's worse, I have
yet to see ⑤523 this morning.
