1981 R.L. Munne Melanerpes formicivorus Low Hay (25 April) on Far Tortuga, other than a lot of Black Oak trees I didn't know existed on Haystack. All on the far, north-facing side of F.T. Also, I'm getting the impression that ♂461 is following ♀524, and ♂307 is associating with ♀523. Interesting. 28 April Start watch from blind 0610. Garrickts coming fast & furious from the "watch" tree. A QNB here too, chased ♀, ♂523, ♀524, 0645. A lot of activity at the Blue Oak hole, I think some birds entered. At the same time, there was a big chase I think involving the garricking bird (♀604?) all 4 residents seemed to take part in the chase. 0650, now garrick coming from well back in the 2° area. Residents all seem to be over there as well. 0730 Macaition in the Blue Oak hole, ♀524 enters several times. ♂307 enters at least once. Never stayed long. 0845, ♂307 chased the garricking bird all the way over the top of Haystack. Suggest ♂♂ largely the reason ♀602 + ♀604 didn't stay. Earlier, I thought I saw ♀523 chase the garricker, but I was not sure. 0855 end. going to check nests. 1000. Check both the 1980 nest and the Blue Oak hole. nothing. The Blue Oak hole does not yet have a good bottom. Earlier, I believe I saw ♂461 peeking at ♀523 in the granary. Hope they can patch that up. 29 April Start 0600 from 2° area, watching holes here (0610, ♀604 Red-mat/BIK here, garrickin' dpa storm (one every 2-3
