Melanerpes formicivorus
Low Hay
(7 April)
Problems remaining are ① 2° granary, with 9601
well established, and 9492 weakly established. 9461
makes occasional forays over there to chase 9492,
and sometime the 9. I'm sure they'll gain
control soon ② Again where is 9587? I suspect
peripheral again, but I'll have to look later
All 9P look well coordinated indefface now. The
occasional intruder is greeted by 3 or 4 flying
'residents' now. Lots of open-wing marks by
the 4 to the 9♂ away themselves.
1100, now a 9NB on the 2° granary as well. Some
SH 99 tried to chase them out, without success,
1500 9♂ are in the sap tree. It's not over yet!
But 2 SH 99 have complete control of the 1° granary.
End 1100. 9307 mounts 9523 in 1° granary, 9461
and a 9 is a big scuffle with 9601 in the 2° granary. Perhaps
that will be cleared up soon as well.
8 April
Thing ain't over yet 0830, lots of activity, still.
Little change Since Yesterday: ① 1° granary in complete control
of LH 9♂ + SH 99. ② 2° granary has 9601, 9492 + 9493,
plus an unbaated 9 ③ Only new thing, a bit of commotion
in the upper Haystack (2°) area.
9601 9♂492+493 maybe defending the 'watch tree'
although at 0855 9307 was in it as well. The "Little"
also are defending the "broken tree". 0915, a 9NB with a
9 in the 2° area. I even saw a mounting, but that seems quite
peripheral. 0930, a 9NB in the sap tree. No sign of 9587
