Melanerpes fornicivorus
Low Hay
(6 April) like 9522 did at Plague last year, but not nearly as
much. While 9587 was in the sap tree, ♂307 + ♂461 flew
over. Friendly greeting, no aggression whatsoever. However,
9587 is most certainly avoiding the granary. It's easy to
see why; at around 1515, Occasional stray PP that had
been peripherally garricking, would attempt to fly
to the granary. They never had a chance, as 9524 is
a demon. She would pick up the intruders before
they got within 50 meters of the granary, and she
(with help from ♂461 + ♂307) would chase them
incredible distances; Once I saw a victim pursued all the
way to Far Tortuga, another east to the crest of the hill
1700, it certainly seems to be all over. ♂461, ♂307,
in 9524 in the granary, acting extremely chummy. Only
one NB intruder the last hour, rapidly vanquished.
♂ no longer chasing her, 9587 no longer around
Questions: ① Exactly what happened to reduce 9587
to the periphery? When I arrived at 1245, Walter said
she was still in command. I took photos until 1419,
Then a bird in the net, and by 1500 9524 was in charge,
9587 was gone. Whatever happened, it happened fast
Point: ① 9523 Did not assist in 9524's victory. Although
Walter saw her peripherally earlier today, and I may have
seen her in the 2° area (south) at 1500, she hasn't
been around at all since. Too bad! Will she join later?
1710, 9587 back in the sap tree. End 1710.
