1981 R.L. Munne Melanerpes formicivorus Low Hay (5 April) 0307 a-d a 9NB. That all ceased after catching 9642. However, she disappeared after release at 1550, odd the revolution reverts to confusion. 9587 still seems to be holding her own, but there are still 2 NB99, 9523, + 9509 around. It looked like the 9 that was mounting with the 08 was ultimately 9642. Hopefully, she will return tomorrow. So at least 6 9 here participating (6 April) 1500 - After an hour of trying to take pictures, then a break to process 9643, I now try to figure out what's going on. Still very active. 9524 (Still) chased around in granary by 0307,0461. 1508, 0307 mounts 9524 in granary. 9524 not being again later chased by anybody. 1515, 9524 looks in charge, chasing everyone else. Where is 9587? I really must have missed something. Walter told me at 1640 that she was still in control of the granary. 9601 from gate garri cts from watch tree. While it was talking photos or fooling with a bird in the net, 9524 must have taken charge. She was chasing 99 all the way over to Far Tortuga. Things really calming down now. 1550, 9587 is still with us, sapsucking and generally hanging out. At 1610 she flies S along the edge of the wooded canyon, stops briefly in the live-oak-encased Valley Oak 50 m W of the granary, then continued on to the supplementary area S of the granary. 9524 must be completely in charge. 9587 was doing a bit of 'warming to herself
