Melanerpes Formicivorus
Low Hay
4 April Start 1345. 1405, ♀523 Dblue/u-DBlue from S Hill
sneaks into the granary while ♂307, ♂461, ♀587
Sapsucking. Immediately upon lading in the granary, all
three residents fly over, and a ♀ ark (crest raise)
chases ♀523 out. I have yet to see ♀515.
Interesting how quickly the residents responded to ♀523.
They were in the sap tree 80 meters N of the granary. Could
they have recognized ♀523 as an intruder that quickly?
1509
1440 ♀523 is back, this time flycatching from
the tree from where I watch, the Valley Oak 75m east
& uphill of the granary. After a few flycatch sorties, ♀587
flies up and gives a mild chase. ♂307 was in the [illegible],
In granary too, but he did nothing. ♀523 flies to
the top of Haystack Hill, then garricks at 1506.
garricks again at 1508, from very top of haystack.
♀587 remain perched in the tree near me.
♀515 is undoubtedly gone, disappeared on
25 March ± 1 week (last seen 17 March).
1512 Revolution! ♀587 chases another bird
from granary, ♀523 joins. Yesirree, ♀509 from
Gazebo (Cran-Dom / Yellow) here too, perched for
a long time in the tree near me, with ♂461 even
1530, some still garricks on top, (♀523 likely?).
Also saw an UBY I think chased by ♂309, but not
positive. 1540, ♂461, ♀509 in tree near me, ♀587, ♂307
in granary, and ♀523 (presumed) on top of Haystack. ♀557
Very Friedly, wakding a lot to 307, even or a flycatch sortie
