1981 R.C. Munne 7 Melanerpes formisivorus 1800 27may Roosting. ♂347 metal was at the hole looking in when I arrived at 1930. At 1940, ♂476 landed to the left of ♂347 ad ♂476 entered. ♂347 then flew off, meaning ♂476 roosted alone. 8June Roosting. A ♂ not 476 or ♂347 was looking out when I arrived. Very late ♂476 arrived, but the bird is the hole did not fly out for several seconds. Finally, ♂476 gave the other bird a peck on the head. It exited, and ♂476 roosted alone. 10June Banding 1700. Banded nestling becomes Red/Blue-Red (Manne nestling) 11June After all day nest watch, ♂476 roosted 20June Watching here for Fledglings, 1645, 1815, very dull, I've seen at least 6 adults, mostly in the 2° area. No sign of the juveniles, no evidence of birds carrying food, etc. Whoops, I find basics still in hole. Whoops! 23June Start watch 1630. Once again, I just can't find the basics. end 1730. Are they still in the hole? Yes! 28June Start 1245, from Pearson Field. A Juv seen flying in out of the hole 1600. Well, both jvus seen, + all adults except ♂347. J695 was keeping a pretty low profile at first, didn't see him until quite late. 30June Watching 1820. Lots of birds in and out of the sap tree, including Orioles and Titmice. ♂ Plus a ♂ Black-headed Grosbeak (!) drinking from the live oak. Both Jvus seen, and a few suspicions that J695 > J696, but nothing definite End 1745
