Melanerpes formisivorus
1800
27may Roosting. ♂347 metal was at the hole looking in when
I arrived at 1930. At 1940, ♂476 landed to the
left of ♂347 ad ♂476 entered. ♂347 then flew off,
meaning ♂476 roosted alone.
8June Roosting. A ♂ not 476 or ♂347 was looking out when
I arrived. Very late ♂476 arrived, but the bird is
the hole did not fly out for several seconds. Finally, ♂476
gave the other bird a peck on the head. It exited, and
♂476 roosted alone.
10June Banding 1700. Banded nestling becomes Red/Blue-Red
(Manne nestling)
11June After all day nest watch, ♂476 roosted
20June Watching here for Fledglings, 1645, 1815, very dull,
I've seen at least 6 adults, mostly in the 2° area.
No sign of the juveniles, no evidence of birds carrying food,
etc. Whoops, I find basics still in hole. Whoops!
23June Start watch 1630. Once again, I just can't find the
basics. end 1730. Are they still in the hole? Yes!
28June Start 1245, from Pearson Field. A Juv seen flying in out
of the hole 1600. Well, both jvus seen, + all adults except
♂347. J695 was keeping a pretty low profile at first,
didn't see him until quite late.
30June Watching 1820. Lots of birds in and out of the sap tree,
including Orioles and Titmice. ♂ Plus a ♂ Black-headed Grosbeak
(!) drinking from the live oak. Both Jvus seen, and a
few suspicions that J695 > J696, but nothing definite
End 1745
