July 10, 1938 Climate is not fixed entirely - changes are occurring. Valleys are particularly good for ecological study. Mixture of plains + mountain vegetation. Flood plain vegetation - willows - alders etc. Mesic in valley. South slope = xeric (pine) North slope more or less mesic. Pines & firs mixed in with pine. 1. Native vegetation disturbed. a. Secondary communities b Relicts (relicts) Watch flood plains on down from Tie City Camp. Water in the valley. Crow Creek Nature of granites 1. Glass (cooled quickly) 2. Small crystals (cooled near top?) 3. Large ... (cooled deep) Composed of Fieldspar (potassium + mg) Mica Granites? Potash + Sodium
