(20x) No bract (on any spike). Acales falling. Peri- gynia about 3.2 mm of which 1 mm is black. 6-21-38 Arena Melica striae Hitch G 152: Arena Torreyi. Nash BvBI 2019 F2. Mostly fallen (6-22-38 good spec. near garage door). Sheath ligule (as desc G) seen best on sterile shoots; on culm sheath has been split. Spikelet 1+cm without awns; 2+cm with awns. Culms 3-5 nerved (as G gives for M.) not 1-3 acc. to BvB. Lemma 8mm (without awns). Awm more than 10 mm. Hair at base of lemma to 2mm. Grain very free, slippery & shining, the persistent bases of styles making a little horns at apex (this perhaps is why G. excludes it from Arena. See G p 140) 6-21-38 Danthonia spicata Beauv.
