10-12 to the cm. Not #10 (well known in appearance) Of "' 11-14 none at all poss. except perhaps #'12 but shape & fl, shortness of petiole v pedicel & our plant make this unlikely. Largest lf now 3.5 x 1 cm, dark green valining abov, very pale belovs with appressed silky hairs on both sides or upper side almost glabrous (lvs on fruiting twigs seen glabrous both sides). Lf very like ill of S. alba (G) Capsule 4mm long, style about .5 mm long shaped much as in ill of S. alba (G) but does not unlike ill of S. nigra (G). Fruiting aments 4-5 cm long, their twigs with 2-4 lvs at base belovs. Last yrs twigs yellowish, becoming brownish towards tip. Petioles not more than 2mm. Stipules none. Best guess now is S. alba L var vitellina Koch G 322 inc (as S. vitellina L) in S. alba L BIVI 575. See ill (esp good lf lvs) Hough 88-89[6-30-38 No] #12. Big tree about drive has very yellow twigs from trunk. Tree north side of drive nearer house no yellow twigs but lo seem exactly the same as do all willow type tree found so far. 6-5-38 Salix No flv fr. North side of drive near road. Last yrs twig olive-green not yellower as abov. has bright green both sides (the lower side hardly less so than the upper) Lowest lvs (on new twigs) oval v rounded at apex, later lvs come to look exactly like ill S. nigra (G) with stipules like ill (G). Petioles 2-3mm, hairy abov. Lf slightly hairy on mid-rib abov & beneath
