Not sure ident because of shape of lvs & lobes of heads (much less prickly, wool white & showing more plainly between the styles. Shape of heads to test now that achenes are beginning to fall). But note: in several plants resemble A. virginiana in that earliest peduncle only is naked, later 1-2 having a 2-lobed involucres. 10-20-38 Solidago serotina Ait. G 796; BvBIII 394 Fl.
