7-26-38 west of Gypsum Corner) Lvs (fronting on trunk) Broadly & sinuately lobed, usually lobes rounded at tip but always distinctly bristle tipped (some of the others being ending in bristles also). This outline I had to diff from usual all that R.B.K. greatly puzzled tried to fit it to D.
mariolandica or Q. ilicifolia. See Keeler & Sargent for dese which admits overlaps to D. velutina Lvs carefully ofd with D. alba v D. rubra near by. Lvs shining above (the others dull) v rough above to eye v touch (the others smooth) with small brown stellate hairs(20x). Lvs yellowish green v shining beneath (D.a-gray green dull, D.r.-somewhat less gray dull) with stellate hairs (like time above) esp along mid-rib & on petioles (until rubbed off). Buds pubescent (D.a-buds pubescent; D.r-buds glabrous except scales ciliate or edge), Barlow Hill. Hough and Huntington 920 96. the difference evident even to R.B.K.'s eye!
