1-28-39 surely not S. americanus or S. Obneryi. This leaves only poss. S. acutus, S. validus or S. Californicus. Achenes 1/2 mm wide (therefore not S. validus). Bristles seem always less than 6 and are somewhat flattened whitish (never plumose) toward tip. Achenes brown (not "almost white" M.), roughened (20x). Infl. about half-way bet JLL J 149 v 148. Scales hardly ciliate. Best guess in spite of Triangulares etc. v brown achene is S. Californicus Britton J 53; M 66 [See S. acutus Muhlb 96-7-39 1-28-39? Erigeron linifolius Willd J 1054; M. 535. Florets Sweetwater Lake. 1-28-39 Solanum nigrum L. J 892; M 455 Florets Sweetwater Lake. (Mr. Gardner called an S. nearby S. villosum but ours has fr. def. Hairs and st. not "viscid-villos" but roughened with few hairs only and "scabrous-angled". Plant lobes exactly like S. nigrum known elsewhere. Corolla purplish, 7mm wide; lvs + toothed angulately sinate (M. says "whitish", 4-5 mm "kerrie" all of which is contrary to R.B.K.'s past experience) Consider S.
