Ident seems probate considering age & spec vs poor condition when studied 6-3. 5-21-39 Cirsium occidentale Jepso J1167; M 588 Fl volv. fr. North foot P Paray Grade. Invol. densely very conspicuously lobedly. Spines purplish with yellow tips. Corolla purple, its lobes 10 mm long. Heads 2 in high overall. (Thus C. Californicum Gray [see 6-29-32] seems impossible) 5-25-39 Eriophyllum confertiflorum Gray var. laxi- florum Gray J1116; M 565. Flv fr. Inspiration Point (3 miles from Julian). Some heads almost sessile but many are peduncled. Those at tip of main st. with peduncles to 15 mm making an umbellate effect. Thus infl. much looser than is usual in E. c—
