Calif. 29 April First warm/hot day since mid-March and at least 2 people reported gopher snakes today, so they're definitely out. 27 May 1125. Just saw the tail of a Gopher snake disappear into Gazebi's nest hole as I was going up to return the (just banded) 24 d.o. nestlings! Pulled him out - he was a good 2½-3' long, and moved him elsewhere. This nest is a good 30' up in a Valley Oak, by the way - not an easy climb by any means.
