Melanerpes formicivorus
Hay-Blom
KNHR
(29 April) was definitely an intruder. However, only 3 appeared
to engage in pre-roost mounting, so who knows
what's up with the 4th? In any case, they roosted in a
new hole in the serious poison oak tree just down &
west from the granary (see geek).
4 May
530. An ambush at the new hole got 2 of the 3,
including 81857 and the new ?, now 92671.
13 May
Power struggle up here - apparently ?. Caught 3
birds (or 2, anyway).
14 May
900. Ambushed at the deep hole in the Hastings tree, where
there was apparently 1 bird, who outlasted us - refusing
to come out (except when she could climb back in the
hole) by 900!
21 June
Out of stores here (but a supplemented group).
14 October
A nest! In a new hole over in the Valley Oak just
down from the 2nd hole in the fence. And the big surprise is:
4 kits! About 28 days old.
