Melanerpes formicivorus
Horsetail
HNHR
13 May 1945. Watched roosting here tonight. Basically
I neither saw nor heard any birds in the area.
There was at least one bird up the side of School
Hill; best I could tell he/she headed up
toward Sch. HILL West to roost. (This suggests
that the birds I keep seeing in this area are
SHWest birds rather than Horsetail birds.)
Whether there's even anyone here at this point or
not would even seem questionable. Birds certainly
pass through regularly, but there's precious
little evidence to indicate that someone really
lives here at the moment, much less has a
nest. (There are a few acorns still in the granary,
but that's about it.)
