1993 1994 1995 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus 1500 HNHP 25 January 1600. Counted stores: Main tree: 2909 ? 3161. 2nd tree: 252) There are a lot of acorns in the main tree here. No obvious depletion as of yet! 27 April 1445. Checked the traditional hole: 4 fresh eggs. (Bird in hole.) Also, there are quite a few stores remaining here. (This is also a supplemented group.) 1994 20 January 1450. Counted stores: Main tree: 2300 ? 2544, 2nd tree : 244. Granany is doing well but is not completely full. Birds may have started to make a serious dent in it already. 30 April 1315. Opened the traditional hole - 4 eggs, incubated. Sizes: ① 26.2 x 21.0 ② 24.9 x 20.8 ③ 25.4 x 21.2 ④ 25.5 x 21.0 There are still stored acorns here also. 27 May 1300. Banded & bled the 3 babies here. Some stores still here 1995 5 February 1530. Counted stores: Main tree: 2570 ? 2638. 2nd tree: 68 Granany is basically full; the 2nd tree is not, however. Capacity is pretty much the same as last year, I'd say. 7 May ♀1609, caught at the nest by Joey yesterday, was released up at Rancho San Carlos this morning. She's marked with green on her forehead in case she comes back. Eggs are just hatching (yesterday).
