1993 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Central Camp / Refute! HNHR 3 April This group supplemented with dog food; feeder put out today. 24 April 1400. Checked the hole in the CeCyn tree: 6 fresh eggs (#1-6). Are there 2 9F here? Bird was flushed from the hole. 21 June MTS reports: acorns remaining here. 6 July 915. Stole the smallest of the 3 babies here for temporary transplanting to The aviary. 17 July 1230. Came to band the 2 babies (the nunt is still in the aviary) but they were both dead in the nest! Both corpses were quite far gone; they've been dead at least a week. Wonder why they abandoned? Guess I'll leave The nunt in the aviary.... (I'll bleed him tomorrow & give him a number).
