1995 1996 Walter D Koeing Melanerpes formicivorus Knoll H N H R 14 May 1300. Opened the Canyon hole: 4 eggs, incubated. Measured one: 26.7 x 20.1 mm. 23 May 920. Checked nest: 3 babies, 1 unhatched egg. Largest baby weighs 13.5g ≈ 3 days old. Egg removed. 11 June 1100. Banded & bled the 3 kids here. No stores left in the granary here! 1996 3 January 1300. Some possibly fresh shells in the granary, but otherwise it's empty. Are there even birds here? 24 May 1215. Opened the new hole in the Y sycamore: 4 eggs, fresh. They were also big! The one I measured was a record 29.4 x 19.6 mm! 28 May 1315. Checked the nest: still 4 eggs. 5 June 1230. Checked nest: 4 babies; 10.5g (~3do). 14 June 1300. Tried to get the ♀, but only 81301 fed. Left it up so she'll get used to the ambush. 15 June 900. Got her! 82527 also fed. 17 June 2000. At roosting tonight, 81301 roosted along with an unidentified 2nd bird, blocked by 81301. 18 June 2000. Tonight, 81301 and possibly an und. 2nd bird roosted in the nest.
