This is a remarkably lackadaisical showing here - either there
weren't that many acorns around (but what about Bianca's fall
nest?) or they just didn't try very hard. Gravany space not
more than 25-35% full, I'd say.
7 April
1000. A few stored acorns remaining here, but hardly a lot.
None in any holes.
28 April
830. Stores still remaining. None in any holes, however.
12 May
1030. Ditto. Surely There's a nest here somewhere. Maybe a
roosting expedition is in order.
18 May
1040. Watching here for a sign of something.
1130. Bird (♀) in poison oak hole. That's it, I'm afraid!
1140. Still no changeover, Incubating? I'm off.
24 May
1600. Finally checked the hole: 3 babies, ~23 do! Est Hatch
date ~May! Est LED = 20 April! Good Thing I finally got up
here!
25 May
810. Veronica up here for a watch.
1200. Banded & bled the 3 babies.
15 June
1000. A quick pass revealed no obvious sign of a 2nd nest.
