1997 1998 1999 Walter Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus School Hill West HNHR 7 May 830. Bird in hole! 6 eggs, a couple days incubated. Measured 2: ① 26.6 × 19.2 ② 26.7 × 18.9. There are still stores here. 12 May 1330. 6 eggs. 1 of These is very small - possibly even a runt - except that it appears to be developing! Should hatch ☀ in a couple of days. (~15 May). 4 July No stores left. Also no sign of a 2nd nest. 1998 22 April A bird flew up to the traditional hole here as I walked up, suggesting something, at least. However, I didn't hear anything so I doubt they have kids. Also, they appear to be out of stores. 7 May 1215. None in the traditional hole. I climbed up and opened it just in case: it's empty but in OK shape. 17 May 1045. Birds here - Dale & I scared off at least one as we arrived. But none in the traditional hole. 21 May 1330. No sign of life here. 1999 27 April 1130. 4 in new hole, 2' above old hole. A few stores also 18 April 1500. Opened The Hole: empty - they're still building it. 12 May 1130. None in any holes. 7 June 1630. A bird in the tree, but none in the hole. Also climbed up and peeped the new hole - no sign of anything.
