1993 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Warp5 HNHR 2 February Checked up here this afternoon. I'd already noted that the Black Oak roost tree had fallen, but in fact, just about everything has gone here within the past 6 months or so: the snag granary has fallen, as has most of the only other tree nearby (a Valley Oak) where I'd ever known these birds to nest or store in. All in all, there's virtually nothing left here: no storage hole, roost holes, or even much in the way of potential trees in which to start over again. My guess is that we won't be seeing anyone here for some time to come!
