1993 1994 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Gate HNHR 2 February 1615. Counted stores: 677. Using most every nook & cranny here, including the big remaining styrofoam block. 18 June Stores remain here! 1994 20 January 1500. Counted stores: 575. Note, however, that Jennifer & Wendy believe this tree to have been taken over by Westgate... 19 April 1615. Bird in last year's Pipeline hole - presumably these Guys... 20 April 1015. Opened the hole (it's not the same as last year's Pipeline nest). It's still being built and as yet has nothing in it. 10 May 1530. Opened the new nest - a new hole high in the Gate tree: 4 babies, ~7 do. Wts: Black-28.2g; LB-30.8g; NOBA-15.0g; #2901: 33.1gm. The bad news is that I sawed off the 4th babies' wing in opening the hole - bummer. Stores still up in this tree also. 25 July 900. Banded the 3 kids from the 2nd nest here. 2 of 3 were quite runty, but will probably make it nonetheless. There are still stored acorns here.
