1997 Walter D Koenig 1998 1999 Melanerpes formicivorus Westgate ANHR 4 April 1515. Bird in my favorite hole. 7 eggs, fresh (all normal). Measured 2: ① 25.1 × 19.0 ② 25.8 × 18.9. 15 April 1400. 7 babies! Didn't measure them, but I guess ~4 days old. (Band ~ 2 May). 5 May 1600. Banded & bled the 2 babies. 10 June 930. 9 in the new hole, lower in the same dead limb. 12 June 1300. Opened the new hole: 4 eggs, incubated, Measured ① 24.6 × 19.0 ② 24.4 × 19.5. Also pulled out the cut from the back of the first nest so I never have to climb up on that limb again! 8 July 1130. Banded and bled the 2 babies here (2918-2919). Lots of acorns left. 1998 28 April 930. Bird in a new hole in the main limb, but even higher than the old (Starling) hole! Managed to get up there: fresh 2 eggs, which I collected (25.0 × 18.5). Lots of stores here. 19 May 1400. Went back up there: 3 hatchlings + 1 egg. Band ~ 4 June. 1999 19 April Stores: Yes. (Lots). 6 July Stores: Yes.
