1993 1994 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes fuscicollis OK Coval H NHR 19 June 1600. Several birds flushed from different trees, several with potential nest holes. A few stores do remain here. 10 July 930 Banded & bled the 3 babies here (#2331-2333). A few acorns still stored here. 1994 12 April 945. Plenty of stores left; none in any holes. 13 April 830. Watching with Joey with hopes (ultimately) of mate- guarding. Several birds here. 915. Moving to side of hill across from granary to get closer. 940. 8 LS-yel/Ycl- #2332. 945. Joey got a reasonable look at 9M/(N) #2136, 1010. 2nd 9: 9 Da-Red #2333 here briefly, 1040. Birds all disappeared down the hill somewhere toward CV2. 1100. 9 2333 back. Now 92136 also. 1105. No good evidence of >3 birds have so far. 12 May 23 May 1000. Stores still present, but none in any holes. 1110. Watched 3 birds from a distance here for some time; they gave no real sign that they have a nest anywhere. 28 May 25 July Katy reports having seen one of the breeder 99 here! Cheated holes - still zilch. But there are stores left.
