17 July
1300. Stores remaining. No sign of a 2nd nest, though
1994
12 April
1000. Plenty of stores left here. Also, we flushed a bird from
a low, new hole in the traditional garrano nest tree just
above the road - a good ladder hole.
1630. Peeped the hole: 2 eggs (bird in hole again also).
13 April
1130. Opened the hole: 3 eggs. Marked 1-3 and measured:
① 24.1 x 18.7 ② 23.9 x 18.9 ③ 23.7 x 19.2
14 April
830. Checked the hole prior to Jeremy's watch: still 3 eggs
(checked - still marked 1-3). Pres. laid 14 April or 15 April
18 April
1640. Checked hole: 4 eggs. ④ 23.3 x 18.5
18 May
1200. Banded the babies (all 4 + 1 transplant).
8 June
Bird in a hole up at CV2a - checked it at 1400 when
at least one fledgling flushed. It was empty, not ready
for a renest. The question is - was this a CV2A nest or
just the CV2 birds hanging out in holes, as fledglings
are wont to do? We'll assume the latter...
25 July
930. Came to band the kids (they eventually did have a 2nd
nest in the hole I checked on 8 June) but found only 1
fairly-recently dead baby. Measurements: Culmen: 20.5
WL: 64 6th 38? Sheath: 25 Tail: 24 Sheath: 12 Tail spots: Yes
Not at all clear why he died - he doesn't even look particularly
emaciated. There are plenty of stores left.
