11 April
1600. Checked nest: 5 eggs, still look fresh. I can just reach them.
14 April
845. Bird in hole. Went up and pulled the 5 eggs, moving them to the incubator in hopes of getting blood/tissue from them eventually. In the meantime, the idea is to make these guys re-nest, giving us a chance to do some mate-guarding watches and to temporarily remove one or both of the young ♂ breeders prior to re-nesting.
Pretty clean
Size of eggs: (1) 23.9 × 18.8
(2) 24.2 × 20.3
(3) 25.5 × 19.5
(4) 25.4 × 20.0
(5) 24.5 × 20.1
Note: there had been ♂ egg-tossing seen here prior to incubation! See Mark's or Jeremy's notes.
18 April
Ambushed this morning, catching all 5 birds (♂1079 is gone). We removed [only] ♂2038, one of the 3 breeder ♂s here. (Note: the other young ♂, ♂2172, tossed 2 eggs [1 a nunt] from the 1st nest!)
20 April
♂2038 died last night. Pisser.
21 April
Three birds, probably from here, in hole (mid-afternoon) over toward Gazebo. See Gazebo notes for details.
12 May
900. Watching. (1) ♀ 1m#2026. Note: we've had the 2nd sub. ♂ (♂2172) in captivity for over 2 weeks now [see MTS notes]. He was caught in one of the River Struggles that took place after the 18 April ambush.
