Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif.
what insects could be found there. The
hummock was approximately 1'x2'x4'.
Several kinds of beetles were found, as well
as some sand crickets & 2 specimens
of animals that looked like greatly
enlarged sow bugs. We dug our soil sample.
We left Glamis at 1315, after
collecting a soil sample at Palm Springs,
we camped at the entrance to UCR's
Deep Canyon Station. We reached that
spot at 1745. We went to bed at 2230.
We drove 150 miles today. Maximum
temp. today was 77°F., minimum temp.
tonight was 46°F.
Jan. 31
Idyllwild area, Riverside Co., Calif.
We arose at 0800. After breakfast,
we drove to Idyllwild to check on
campsites for the field zoology class.
We looked at Riverside County Park,
which is a good possibility. We also
looked at our lots in Pine Cove to see
if we might be able to trap animals
there. We tried to get to public camp
grounds north of Pine Cove, but the
cliff roads were to wet & icy to get
through. We reached UCR at 1435 after
driving 103 miles today. The total mileage
for the trip was 674 miles. Mark's
sleeping bag had been turned in to the San
Bernardino police while we were gone.
