Mayhew 1960 Journal 38. May 14 Coachella Valley, Riverside Co., Calif. all morning (gusts to over 35 mph were recorded). Very few animals were seen at this location (a few Diperoanaus drosalis), so we drove on to Vista China Road in Palm Springs, arriving at 1035. Large numbers of Diperoanaus drosalis and a few Uma insinata were seen or captured at this site in spite of the wind. We left this area at 1200 and started up Highway 74 from Palm Desert. One stop was made at about 2000 foot elevation where 1 Uta stansburiana, 1 Sauromalus obesus, & 1 Crotaphytus collaris were captured. Sceloporus occidentalis & Sceloporus orcutti were seen but not captured. Then we drove on to Pinon 7 lots for lunch (1400 to 1430). The wind was so strong here we didn't look around for animals. We reached Idyllwild at 1530 and set up camp in the Idyllwild Co. Park. The sky became overcast during the evening, but no rain fell. The minimum temp. tonight was 38°F. We drove 137 miles today. May 15 Idyllwild Area, Riverside Co., Calif. We arose at 0700. No mammal traps had been set the previous night because of the number of
