all morning (gusts to over 35 mph were
recorded). Very few animals were
seen at this location (a few
Diperoanaus drosalis), so we drove
on to Vista China Road in Palm
Springs, arriving at 1035. Large numbers
of Diperoanaus drosalis and a few
Uma insinata were seen or captured
at this site in spite of the wind.
We left this area at 1200 and started
up Highway 74 from Palm Desert. One
stop was made at about 2000 foot
elevation where 1 Uta stansburiana, 1
Sauromalus obesus, & 1 Crotaphytus
collaris were captured. Sceloporus
occidentalis & Sceloporus orcutti
were seen but not captured. Then we
drove on to Pinon 7 lots for lunch
(1400 to 1430). The wind was so
strong here we didn't look around
for animals. We reached Idyllwild
at 1530 and set up camp in the
Idyllwild Co. Park. The sky became
overcast during the evening, but no
rain fell. The minimum temp. tonight
was 38°F. We drove 137 miles today.
